I create personalized lessons re: Reading Skills/Comprehension, Writing Skills, Grammar, and Vocabulary Enrichment for students of all ages.
Throughout my years in Bergen County, I have developed close relationships with all of my students, many of which have worked with me
from elementary/middle school straight through high school. Through our lessons together, my students have become avid readers and skilled
writers who have won statewide literary competitions, such as the 8th Grade "Patriot's Pen Award". In addition, the majority of my students
earn 32 and above on the English sections of the ACT, and 600 and above on the Reading/Writing Section of the SAT.
In fact, quite a few have achieved perfect scores! This great achievement, in addition to their excellent GPAs have given them the opportunity to attend the universities of their choice: Yale, Columbia, Notre Dame, Northwestern, Vanderbilt, Penn State and NYU to name just a few. I feel so grateful to be able to be part of my students' lives, so that I can help them to embrace their academic journey towards a successful and happy future.
I am a great believer in the value of a strong academic
foundation. This foundation begins in Pre-School/
Kindergarten, and continues to grow throughout
each child's lifetime.
I am an enthusiastic teacher who has a passion
for nurturing a love of learning. There is nothing
more rewarding than to be able to teach young
children to read their first words; their smiles of
achievement and joy are priceless!

I have found great success in utilizing ACT/SAT Reading
Comprehension and Grammar practice tests with my
7th/8th Grade students, as they are the perfect tool to
"take my students' knowledge of Grammar and Reading
Comprehension skills to another level".
In this way, I am able to teach more advanced levels of critical

"I met Ms. Sheridan when I was in seventh grade. She definitely had her work cut out with me, both in where I was as a writer, and my overall communication skills. Despite my stubbornness at times, I always felt sure of Ms. Sheridan's confidence, which showed through in her patience and care. I loved working with Ms. Sheridan. I was able to spend 6 years under Ms. Sheridan's guidance, and without her, I would be no where near to where I am now. It's truly a pleasure knowing and working Ms. Sheridan, and I know that I can always count on her advice, in and out of the classroom. "

"Ms. Sheridan has been one of the greatest influences in my life, both academically and personally. Ms. Sheridan helped me develop into an extremely talented writer, and it is my greatest strength in my college coursework. She helped me prepare for all of my major academic assignments and always challenged me to submit my best work. She helped me develop my vocabulary, perfect my grammar, write college essays, and so much more. Ms. Sheridan's influence has a long-lasting impact on me as I have used her wisdom to tutor others and act as a valuable resource to my peers. Personally, Ms. Sheridan was a fantastic support system for me all throughout elementary, middle, and high school. She is an extremely caring and thoughtful individual, and any student would be lucky to have such an amazing mentor." - Katie A.

“Proven success” - Having had Ms. Sheridan work with my children for over twelve years, I can comfortably say that she is a conscientious and effective teacher who encourages each child to do their best. Whether the child is 5 years old and learning how to read, or 15 and preparing for an SAT, her tried and true methods produce results, with each child finding within themselves the type of success that they can be proud of. – Amy B.
I remember when Ms. Sheridan would work with my older brother, and it looked like so much fun that I would ask my mom when it was my turn. Now, even after ten years, I still look forward to our weekly sessions. Her thorough and detailed lesson plans are extremely effective, but also fun and engaging. -Caroline , Rising High School Freshman
I have been working with Ms. Sheridan since kindergarten, and I am now a graduating high school senior. When I was 5, she chose books that would encourage my love of reading. As the years progressed, she introduced invaluable skills, like improving my grammar, enriching my vocabulary, and honing my writing skills. When it came time for standardized testing, I was more than prepared, as she tackled the prep-work with me to ensure that I would walk away with a score that I could be proud of. I am so grateful for having had the chance to work with Ms. Sheridan through the years. - Matt
There are no words to express our gratitude for the weekly lessons
Ms. Sheridan had with my two children, Michael and Joanna. My children always felt ahead of the curve in school. We still discuss the books she exposed them to; most importantly , this special relationship will be with them forever. Even after their lessons had ended, she helped them to get into the colleges of their choice because of her help with their college essays. What a blessing Ms. Sheridan is!

"I've always enjoyed writing but needed guidance on executing ideas, choosing the correct word that's most impactful to the reader, along with well-needed general grammar support. Ms. Sheridan took the time to work with me from middle school all the way to high school graduation. Not once did she ever write something for me or tell me what words to use, she coached me to think critically and implement what was taught the week prior. These tools and strengths helped me in college writing courses and even in my day-to-day responsibilities in my career today. While I imagine she has some corrections or suggestions to this testimonial, it's important for everyone to realize that there's always room for improvement. No one is perfect but Ms. Sheridan gets you pretty close to it. I wouldn't be where I am today without her."

I teach STUDY/ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS
to all of my students from Elementary School through
High School. These skills help them to:
BECOME MORE PRODUCTIVE
IMPROVE THEIR TIME MANAGEMENT
GIVES THEM A SENSE OF ACCOMPLISHMENT
WHEN THEY REACH THEIR "REALISTIC
GOALS"
Learning organizational skills at an early age is an
invaluable building block in the foundation of a child's
education. Ultimately, these skills help students to
become: confident, productive, and successful
individuals.
The annotation of novels, short stories, plays, and poetry is a requirement in most High School English classes. Inevitably, students are asked to annotate 1-2 novels each summer, and several throughout the school year.
Annotation is a skill that must be taught and perfected to enhance a reader's understanding of text
and stories.
In addition, annotation helps the reader to clarify ideas, and analyze/interpret the text he/she is
reading. In short, annotation makes reading more meaningful and helps students to remember
important information.
Throughout my years of teaching, I have annotated a great many novels, some of which include:
The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
